Let this year’s commemorations of Unity Day be the starting point for us to change our mindsets.

Yes, we can safeguard our hard won sovereignty and peace that is prevailing within our beloved Zimbabwe not at the expense of the environment. This should be known and be re-emphasized that climate change is real and inevitable.

African continent contributes about 4% to the global pollution but we are the ones suffering the heavy blow of climate change and its devastating impacts. Seasons have changed, temperatures are ever increasing, droughts are talk of the day. This can be attributed to negligence and ignorance, what are we doing as Zimbabweans to end the effects of environmental degradation.

This festive season I would like to edge all Zimbabweans to plant at least one tree at most 32 trees each to commemorate 32 years since the signing of the unity accord, we can term it a "Green Festive Season". Climate Change is real we need to implement some of the home grown solutions to avert the danger. Everyone one of us can start by planting a single tree, the National 2020 tree target can be reached within the festive season let’s unite as Zimbabweans together we can achieve a better and greener Zimbabwe.

We should desist from a habit of neglecting the environment we depend on the environment and environment also depends on us.
